Data Center Energy Efficiency: Data center electricity costs are increasing rapidly. Google spends $38 million annually to power theirs, according to a research report from MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Akamai. And a 2008 McKinsey & Co. report predicts carbon emissions from data centers will quadruple by 2020, exceeding the airline industry.
